Choosing the right blogging software is certainly important. Although I think it's better to start a blog now and not worry about which software to use. A good blog with limited functionality is much better than no blog at all. You can always migrate or upgrade later.

It's also extremely important to commit to blogging. Be sure to blog regularly so that your blog(s) don't get stale. I can't tell you how frustrated I get when it's been months since someone's last blog post. Especially when what they were saying was valuable. I want more... Give it to me! :)
